Handmade rugs of good quality can be a significant investment. Even though they are of excellent quality and therefore will last for a long time, taking good care of it will only add years to your enjoyment.
Our first advice is to purchase an underlay alongside your rug. Underlays are quite inexpensive and bring several advantages. These include protection from the underside of the carpet, so it's softer to walk on and to avoid the rug from sliding around the room.
Secondly, if the rug will be placed under a table or chairs, we recommend the use of protectors on the feet as this will prevent indentations. Please bear in mind, that if you are placing your rug under furniture, you should rotate it frequently. One of the most common reasons for rug damages is the placement of heavy objects over a long time.
Prevent month damage by buying a few appropriate sprays which will protect your rug from damage. Avoid leaving your carpets untouched and in the dark as humid areas attract not only moths but other parasites as well.
Additionally, it is essential to keep your rug clean. Here are some tips:
- 1-Professional Cleaning: Due to the composition of different materials and dyes which the rugs are made from, we recommend professional cleaning from six months to once a year so that any damage such as colour bleeding is prevented.
- 2-Stain Removal: If an unforeseen event occurs, work quickly. Scoop up solids or absorb the liquids as much as possible and without scrubbing the area to prevent matting or fuzzing. Contact us immediately.
- 3-Vacuuming cleaning: Always be careful with the fringe and the vacuum cleaner since a few are too strong and powerful and would diminish the life of a rug. Use only a suction vacuum. Vacuuming removes most dry soil, but street grime, oily soils, and air pollution can build up eventually, and your area rug may require cleaning.The accumulation of these particles can cause gradual dulling.
Lastly, it's essential to be careful with the sun. Sunlight works as a very potent bleaching agent and can reduce and fade your rug’s brilliant colours. Try to avoid placing your rug away from direct sunlight. If this is not possible, make sure it shines on the carpet evenly.
